Engineer, consultant and lecturer
Sara Hofmann
I am a freelance consultant and master's student in Systems Engineering Mechatronics. I combine technical knowledge with interdisciplinary thinking, practical problem solving and a strong interest in sustainable innovation.
My route into engineering was deliberately interdisciplinary. After a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, I moved into the more technically demanding field of mechatronics. This transition taught me to work quickly into unfamiliar subjects, connect different disciplines and continue learning systematically.
My technical experience ranges from data analysis and model-based tasks to industrial machine vision. At ZEISS in Jena, I worked with MATLAB and Python on industrial machine-vision tasks. I currently work at ZEISS SMT with knowledge graphs that make complex technical relationships structured, machine-readable and traceable.
I combine analytical thinking with a practical perspective. I care not only about creating technically sound results, but also about involving people through clear documentation, teaching and collaborative project work.
Experience
- Bachelor's thesis at MAPAL Dr. Kress KG: analysis and design of new business models for new-business generation
- Working student at ZEISS in Jena: data analysis with MATLAB and industrial machine vision with Python
- Current role at ZEISS SMT: knowledge graphs for structured and traceable technical relationships
- Lecturer at Aalen University: teaching cost and performance accounting in an application-oriented way
- Freelance work: content and visual improvement of lectures and support with their delivery
- Mathematics tutoring: helping school and university students gain confidence and work independently
What I bring
- Technical skills: Python, industrial machine vision, MATLAB, Simulink, Creo and knowledge graphs
- Interdisciplinary thinking: connecting business, engineering and mechatronics
- Clear communication: explaining complex technical content for the relevant audience
- Analytical problem solving: approaching complex questions in a structured and creative way
- Adaptability: learning continuously and moving confidently into new technical fields
Why work with me?
I combine practical experience in data analysis, industrial machine vision and knowledge graphs with a strategic perspective from industrial engineering. Whether in consulting, lecturing or project work, I work in a structured, solution-oriented way and keep results transparent.
